SAN FRANCISCO —
When the sun went down Tuesday night, red and gold lights went on at San Francisco's City Hall as the city shows off it's pride in the 49ers.
With a flip of the switch, 1,600 red lights went on on all four buildings of the Embarcadero Center.
The lights are now scheduled to shine red and gold from 4 p.m. until midnight.
Director of Engineering at the Embarcadero Center Danny Murtagh on Wednesday said crews were going to put additional yellow lamps on the second roofline "to keep the red and gold thing going until we get to the Superbowl."
Management gave KTVU special rooftop access to show off the 49er flags on Embarcadero One and Four.
Boston Properties runs the Embarcadero Center. The staff needed permission from headquarters in Boston to light up the buildings.
Senior Vice President of Boston Properties Steve Colvin said there is a great deal of of internal competition between Boston and San Francisco.
"But I think we've got the best team in the best part of the country, " said Colvin.
Coit Tower was also awash in red lights with a band of gold.
Mayor Ed Lee is in Washington D.C. attending a conference, but his staff hinted that Mayor's bet with New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg may have an element of surprise.
"We always love betting our world famous dungeness crab but we might have a little bit higher stakes this time," said the mayor's spokewoman Christine Falvey.
But when pressed, Falvey would not disclose what those higher stakes might be.
However, the mayor is expected to announce Wednesday what he is betting.
