DANVILLE, Calif. —

The brother of Giants outfielder Nate Schierholtz has been arrested after an alleged drunk driving hit-and-run spree that left a bicyclist and a pedestrian injured, several vehicles damaged and a utility pole knocked out of commission, authorities said.

According to police, 23-year-old Cainan Schierholtz never stopped after any of the collisions and was subdued by witnesses who followed him to a nearby intersection and detained him.

Officers responded to reports of a dangerous driver along Danville Boulevard and Railroad Avenue at about 10 a.m. Sunday morning, according to the police department.

Upon investigation, officers learned that the driver – identified as Schierholtz -- was traveling southbound on Danville Boulevard when he struck a bicyclist also traveling southbound in the bike lane.

Schierholtz did not stop at the scene, and continued southbound, where he hit a pedestrian standing in the bike lane with a bicycle.

He then swerved into the traffic lane and collided with a Ford pick-up truck, and continued onto southbound Railroad Avenue, where he traveled up onto the sidewalk and knocked a light pole to the ground.

Schierholtz then continued southbound on Railroad Avenue to Linda Mesa Avenue, where he collided with the rear of a Lexus SUV.

Witnesses followed Schierholtz to the intersection of Montair Drive and Macomber Road. Once the driver stopped the truck, neighbors surrounded it, got Schierholtz out and held him until police arrived.

Witnesses say Schierholtz was driving erratically even after his the airbags deployed.

"We heard a guy yelling, saying ‘Get out of the street! There's a guy who just run over two bikers, and he's driving a red truck and he's crazy and knocked over a poll and what not, and he's gone up the street here,’" said witness Jane Joyce.

The bicyclist was transported by ambulance to a local hospital and treated for multiple abrasions, contusions and minor head lacerations. The pedestrian and two occupants of the Lexus SUV sought their own medical treatment. The driver of the Ford truck was uninjured.

Schierholtz was booked for four counts of DUI causing bodily harm, three counts of hit and run causing personal injury, two counts of hit and run property damage, and driving without a license.

He is being held on $350,000 bail.

Anyone with further information on this incident is encouraged to call the lead traffic investigator, Danville Police Officer Julie Parish at (925) 314-3700.
