Bay Area Tree-Recycling Information

OAKLAND, Calif. —

Ready to recycle your Christmas tree? If you live in the Bay Area, below should be all the information you need. If you don't see what you need below, click here for Earth911.com.

Alameda County: Call the Recycling Hotline toll-free at 877-STOPWASTE or click on this link for specific information on tree recycling during the holiday season.

Contra Costa County: Many curbside yard waste programs accept Christmas Trees for recycling during the holiday season, but you should click on this link to find your city's curbside recycling provider and make sure your city provides curbside collection.

Marin County: Text below is from the Marin Recycling Center Web site. Marin Sanitary Service provides curbside Christmas tree recycling through Green Yard waste pick-up for the month of January. Tree stands/bases must be removed. No flocked trees. No trees over six feet. For trees over 6’ either cut in half or bring to our facility listed below.

Most fire stations accept Christmas Trees for recycling. Please call your local fire station for drop-off location and requirements.

Napa County: Boy Scouts Christmas tree collection date is Jan 9, 2010. For more information, go here.

San Francisco: Go to the city's recycling Web site, SFenvironment.org and use the "ecofindrrr" (on the left-hand side of the home page.) After selecting "Christmas trees" from the drop down menu and entering in your zip code, you will be directed to your nearest recycling center.

San Mateo County: Click on the link to the Recycleworks Web Site to find out drop-off locations and if you can recycle your tree curbside.

Santa Cruz: From the county's Public Works Web site: Holiday trees placed at your curb will be picked up on your regular recycling day during the week of January 4th through January 8th, 2010.

Sonoma County: From the Sonoma County Waste Management Agency's Web site:

Residents have three options for recycling their Christmas Tree this year:

1. Cut the tree to fit in yard waste container.

Put your tree in your yard waste container and place at the curb on your regular yard waste collection day. The tree MUST be CUT TO FIT inside the container. Trees sticking out of the container can interfere with the lifting arm on the truck. Thank you for your help.

Healdsburg, Rohnert Park, Santa Rosa and Windsor have whole tree collection; place tree beside yard waste container on your regular yard waste collection day the weeks of: Healdsburg January 4-22, 2010 Rohnert Park January 4-15, 2010 Santa Rosa December 28, 2009 to January 8, 2010 Windsor December 28, 2009 to January 2, 2010 Unincorporated area Pick up will occur between January 4-29, 2010. Please note that Friday January 1, 2010 is a holiday. Therefore, service will be delayed by one day for Thursday through Friday customers.

Outside of listed days, place tree in yard waste container; cut tree to fit. Please do not bag your tree.

2. Call 565-3333 for an appointment to have a non-profit in your area pickup your tree. The pickup dates are December 26-27, 2009, January 2-3, 2010 and January 9-10, 2010. Call before Friday, January 8, 2010. for an appointment. There is a suggested $5 donation for this service.

3. Free drop-off locations throughout the county. You may take up to two trees to any of the following drop-off locations at no charge. Click here to see the drop off locations.
