One of the biggest 4th of July parties in the East Bay takes place all day at the Berkeley Marina starting in the late morning with all kinds of free fun. The always popular Adventure Playground opens at 11 a.m., giving children a place where they can get creative with hammers, nails, saws, paint (as long as there is parental supervision). Kids can also get their face painted, try the giant slide or splash in the water at the beach.
Live entertainment runs from noon until 9:30PM on the main stage including the U.S. Air Force Band (aka The Blue Yonders), the John Brothers Piano Company, St. Gabriel's Celestial Brass Band, Stafford and Sturdevant's Jazz Americana and violinist Kippy Marks. On the Buddy Club Stage in Shorebird Park, children will be entertained with world-renowned juggling and magic actsas well as Afro-Cuban drumming, Caribbean steel drums from In Steel, UCA Capoeira and Coventry & Kaluza’s Circus Arts.
There will also be crafts, yummy food, free dragon boat rowing from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., massages, carnival rides, an inflatable park, a bungee trampoline, pony rides and bubble ball rides all culminating in the grand fireworks over the water from the end of the Berkeley Pier at 9:30 p.m.While the alcohol-free event doesn't cost anything, parking in the Berkeley Marina will set you back $15.
