SAN FRANCISCO —

A bicyclist was taken to a hospital Wednesday night after he was struck by a car in San Francisco's Mission District.

The bicyclist was taken to San Francisco General Hospital after the crash, which was reported at 8:19 p.m. at 17th and Valencia streets, a fire dispatcher said.

Officers at a police station across the street heard the accident from inside the building, Sgt. Matt Rodgers said.

"It wasn't as bad as it looked at first," he said.

The full extent of the bicyclist's injuries was not immediately known, however Rodgers said the victim was in pain but conscious and talking when emergency crews took him to the hospital.

Police blocked 17th Street to traffic as emergency crews responded to the scene.

A four-door Toyota sedan with front-end damage was stopped near the scene of the accident, in front of Harrington Galleries furniture store.
