Caltrain Back On Time After Mechanical Delays

Regular Caltrain service has resumed after mechanical problems caused delays of up to an hour Thursday morning, a spokeswoman said.

Southbound train No. 102 broke down at the Belmont station at 5:48 a.m. due to a problem with an air compressor in the braking system, Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn said.

Then, at about 7:50 a.m., southbound train No. 314 broke down at the San Mateo station, Dunn said. That train had a faulty light that indicated the train was overheating, even though that was not the case, she said.

Caltrain's computer system also initially indicated that a third train, No. 206, had gone out of service at the San Carlos station, but Dunn said it was a glitch in the system, and that the train had no problems.

The disabled trains caused delays of up to an hour in both directions. Passengers on the disabled trains were transferred to other trains that had to single-track through some areas, Dunn said.

Regular service resumed at 10:30 a.m., in time for special trains operating for the San Francisco Giants game at AT&T Park, she said.
