Christmas tree recycling in the Bay Area

BAY AREA —

Here are instructions on how to recycle Christmas trees in many Bay Area cities:

Oakland:
Curbside Collection — Please place tree curbside on your regular collection day. Trees will be accepted starting Jan. 2 and through until Jan. 13.

    San Jose:
    Curbside Collection —December 27 through January 31, 2012. Normal recycling pick-up schedule applies.

    Marin County:
    Curbside Collection — Marin Sanitary Service provides curbside Christmas tree recycling through Green Yard waste pick-up for the month of January.

    Diablo Valley/East Bay
    Curbside Collection on Jan. 6- 10  — Customers in Danville and Walnut Creek, plus Alamo, Diablo, Blackhawk and the surrounding unincorporated areas.
    Curbside Collection on Jan. 13-17 — Customers in Lafayette, Moraga, Orinda and the surrounding unincorporated areas.

    Antioch:
    Drop Off — From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Prewett Family Water Park parking lot and at the Antioch Marina Overflow Parking Lot at 2nd and L streets on these days — Jan. 1,  Jan. 7 and Jan. 8.
    Special Collection — Boy Scouts will pick up holiday trees on Saturdays and Sundays, from Dec. 31 to Jan. 9. Have unflocked trees ready for pickup before 8 a.m. Donations of $8 or $1 per foot for large trees, payable to BSA, would be appreciated.     Benicia:
    Curbside Collection — Place unflocked trees in your yard waste cart. Branches must be 6 inches or less in diameter and 3 feet or less in length. Tree tops should be cut off for the waste cart's lid must be closed. For more information, contact Allied Waste Services, (707) 747-0608.
    Drop-Off Sites — Dec. 31 & Jan. 1, 7, & 8 from 9 a.m. to  4 p.m. at the Benicia Community Park near Matthew Turner School or First Baptist Church on Southampton Road.
    Alternate Drop off site — Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 444 S. Buchanan Circle in Pacheo. No Charge. For more information, contact Allied Waste Services at (707) 747-0608.
    Special Collection — On Dec. 31, and Jan. 1, 7, & 8, by appointment with the Benecia Boy Scouts. A minimum donation of $7 per tree will be requested. To schedule, call (707) 551-4520 or email services@beniciascouts.org. For more information,  visit www.beniciascouts.org.

    Dixon
    Curbside Collection — Trees may always be cut to fit inside the yardwaste Toter®. Trees sent for recycling must be free of tinsel, flocking, ornaments, and tree stands.
    Special Collection — Call Boy Scout Troop #152 to schedule pick-up at (707) 678-9693. Expected donation is $10 per tree, $15 per flocked tree. For more information, visit www.troop152dixon.com

    Fairfield, Suisun, Travis AFB
    Curbside Collection — Cut trees up to fit inside the greenwaste cart. Lid must be closed. For more information, contact Solano Garbage Company, (707) 437-8900.
    Special Collection— Call the Boy Scouts to schedule pick-up on Jan. 7 & 14 at (707) 421-5308. Expected donation is $5 for trees 6 feet and under, $10 for trees over 6 feet, and $10 for trees that are flocked and tinseled. For more information, visit www.chiefsolanobsa.net

    Vallejo
    Curbside Collection — Cut trees to fit inside your yardwaste Toter®. Whole trees will NOT be picked up. No Flocked Trees. Vallejo city residents with questions should contact Recology Vallejo at (707) 552-3110.
    Special Collection — Nonprofit groups will be available for to pick up your tree on Jan. 7 & 14 only. Expected donation is $5 per tree; flocked trees will be accepted but will be taken to landfill.
