2 men arrested for allegedly trying to steal $20 bill from man at gas station

MENLO PARK, Calif. —

Two men were arrested last week after they allegedly tried to rob $20 from a man pumping gas in Menlo Park.

Officers responded to reports of a robbery at a Chevron gas station located at 1399 Willow Road at about 10:20 p.m. on Thursday, according to Menlo Park police.

Two suspects had approached a man as he was paying for gas and stole a $20 bill out of the man's hand, police said.

The suspects fled on foot, and the victim got into his car and followed them, police said.

He caught up with the suspects less than a block away and they apparently returned the $20, police said.

The suspects the got into a car and headed into East Palo Alto.

The victim continued to follow the men and called 911, who located their car and arrested them.

Warner Travis, 18, of Menlo Park, and Jeffrey Thames, 21, of San Francisco were arrested for robbery and conspiracy to commit a crime.
