SAN FRANCISCO —

A 22-year-old man who had been reported missing in San Francisco is safe and has been in touch with his family, police said Tuesday.

Evan Flanary contacted his family, who told police he is OK and had been unreachable because he had not charged his phone, Officer Albie Esparza said.

Flanary's family had reported him missing, telling police he had not been heard from since he left to meet a stranger he met through a social media phone app at around 5:30 p.m. last Tuesday, Esparza said.

Flanary's mother said on her Facebook page that Flanary had contacted his family after seeing media reports that he was missing.
