The man suspected of shooting 10 people at Oikos University has been charged with seven counts of murder with special circumstances and three counts of attempted murder, according to prosecutors.

One Goh, 43, appeared before Judge Sandra Bean dressed in a red jail jumpsuit, behind a glass partition.

He did not enter a plea. Goh will be represented by the Alameda County Public Defender's Office, and will return to court April 30 for a possible plea entry.

The Alameda County District Attorney's Office has charged Goh, a Korean national who lived in Oakland, with seven counts of murder with special circumstances and three counts of attempted murder.

"The enormity and devastation of these crimes is unprecedented in Alameda County," District Attorney Nancy O'Malley said in a prepared statement. "My office will work tirelessly to ensure that this defendant is brought to justice."

She said her office will also provide "every possible service" to the surviving victims and to the families of those who were killed.

The shooting was reported at 10:33 a.m. at the campus, located at 7850 Edgewater Drive, near Oakland International Airport.

Oakland police said in a probable cause statement filed with the district attorney's office that Goh has admitted to going to the campus on Monday morning with a .45-caliber handgun and four fully loaded magazines of ammunition.

Police said he admitted to forcing a woman from her office into a classroom at gunpoint, and to shooting and killing several people inside the classroom, then taking one victim's car keys and fleeing in the vehicle.

Goh surrendered to Alameda police at a Safeway store at 2227 South Shore Center in Alameda at about 11:20 a.m. after admitting to a security guard that he had shot several people in Oakland, police said.

Four of the victims were East Bay residents, identified as Lydia Sim, 21, of Hayward; Sonam Choedon, 33, of El Cerrito; Grace Eunhea Kim, 23, of Union City; and Doris Chibuko, 40, of San Leandro.

Two other victims were identified as San Jose resident Judith Seymour, 53, and San Francisco resident Tshering Rinzing Bhutia, 38.

The seventh victim was identified in the complaint as Katleen Ping.

Three other people were wounded in the shooting. The complaint identified those victims as Dawinder Kaur, Ahmad Javid Sayeed and Grace Kirika.

Goh is being held at the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin without bail.
