ANTIOCH, Calif. —

An Antioch man accused of fatally punching his 2-month-old son in the head is facing trial on a murder charge.

A judge ruled at the end of a preliminary hearing on Wednesday that there was sufficient evidence for 24-year-old Sigifredo Lua to stand trial on that and other charges, including one count of felony child abuse for earlier injuries the boy suffered.

Authorities say Lua acknowledged hitting the boy on the side of his head with a closed fist on Feb. 15. He allegedly told police he was frustrated because the baby was crying.

The Contra Costa Times reports that the boy died three days later. He had multiple skull fractures and other injuries.
