SAN JOSE, Calif. —

Two suspects entered a San Jose jewelry store Monday intending to rob it but were thwarted by the owner who pulled out a gun and chased them from the building, police and sources told KTVU.

San Jose police Sgt. Fabrice Bellini told KTVU that investigators were searching the area around the Joyeria Store Vanessa located at 1642 Story Road for any sign of the suspects.

While Bellini could not confirm any other details sources told KTVU that the two bandits – wearing masks and hooded sweatshirts – entered store in the strip mall at about 10:15 a.m.

At least one of the men was armed, according to both police and sources.

San Jose police Officer Albert Morales said at some point, at least one of the suspects fired at the storeowner. The owner returned fire, and the pair fled without taking anything.

Bellini said investigators were viewing the store’s video surveillance tape for any other clues in the attempted robbery.
