SAN JOSE, Calif. —

A 23-year old man was arrested on murder charges only hours after the Dec. 21 stabbing death of a man at a graduation party in North San Jose, the San Jose Police Department said Wednesday.

Tien Nguyen was taken into custody at 11:20 a.m. on Dec. 21 after Steve Bangalan, 30, was stabbed during the party in the 1600 block of Oakland Road shortly before 3 a.m., police said.

The stabbing took place after the suspect and the victim got into an argument, police said.

Bangalan, a San Jose resident, was transported to a hospital but died about 40 minutes following the assault, police said.

The suspect then fled but was apprehended later that morning based on information from witnesses at the scene, police said.

Bangalan, a San Jose resident, had attended the office gathering at The Agency insurance company owned by Michael Tran, who said that the victim was his cousin.
