ALAMEDA, Calif. —

A car fire at the Oakland Raiders' training facility in Alameda early Tuesday morning appears to be a case of arson, Alameda Fire Chief Mike D'Orazi said.

Police said the blaze was reported at 3:50 a.m. in the parking lot of the facility, located at 1220 Harbor Bay Parkway.

D'Orazi said there were no distinguishing marks on the car, a BMW, and its vehicle identification number can't be read. He said the BMW was also missing all of its tires and was on blocks.

Its license plate was melted beyond recognition, he said.

The BMW was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, and was destroyed, D'Orazi said.

The fire spread to some grass next to the parking lot, but firefighters extinguished the blaze within 15 minutes and the Raiders' training facility was never threatened, he said.

No one was injured.

Alameda police Lt. Jill Ottaviano said a Raiders employee noticed the car on fire when he arrived at the facility and called police.

She said police will try to identify the car's owner by looking at a stamp on its engine.
