NAPA, Calif. —

Authorities identified the man fatally shot by Napa police officers Friday night following a vehicle pursuit in American Canyon.

Police said 27-year-old Angelo D. Moreno, a man who was homeless in the Martinez area, was shot and killed by deputies after a short car chase on Newell Drive.

Moreno was driving a white Mazda truck, which had been reported stolen in the city of Rodeo  March 15.

At about 10 p.m. Friday, American Canyon police attempted to stop Moreno in his truck, but he sped off.

Shots were fired and Moreno was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said.

According to sheriff's deputies, no officers were injured during the incident.

The Napa County Major Crimes Task Force, comprised of representatives from the Napa Police Department, Napa County Sheriff's Office, Calistoga Police Department and the District Attorney's Office, was activated, and would continue to investigate the incident, deputies said.

Deputies said they wouldn’t have another update until Tuesday.
