CLAYTON, Calif. —

A Contra Costa County man is suspected of murdering his own father, a sheriff's office spokesman said Saturday.

The victim, Richard Wester 61, was reported unconscious and not breathing shortly after 11 a.m. on Friday at his home on the 400 block of Meadow View Lane, outside of Clayton, according to sheriff's office spokesman Jimmy Lee.

He was declared dead by paramedics by the time deputies arrived on scene.

After conducting interviews, detectives arrested Wester's son, Matthew Wester, 22, on suspicion of murder, Lee said. He is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, and Lee did not release further details about the circumstances surrounding the death.
