SAN JOSE, Calif. —

New information surfaced Thursday about the killing of a wealthy businessman in Monte Sereno on the same day that one of the four people arrested for the homicide appeared in court.

KTVU obtained a copy of the divorce filing by homicide victim Raveesh Kumra and his wife that was thousands of pages long.

Among the things it hinted at were shady business dealings and a sham divorce.

Still, prosecutors weren't saying what motivated the four accused killers in the case.

Facing a murder charge, 22-year-old Deangelo Austin made his first appearance before a judge Thursday afternoon at the Hall of Justice in San Jose.

Austin did not enter a plea. He is one of four suspect accused of being involved in the killing of wealthy businessman Kumra during a home invasion at his Monte Sereno mansion in late November.

Lucas Anderson and Javier Garcia also face murder charges, while Raven Dixon has been charged as an accessory. Reports suggest Dixon has a history of prostitution.

Both police and prosecutors wouldn't talk about the connection between Kumra and the four defendants.

According to the criminal complaint, Kumra was killed with a metal object of some kind.

The killing happened during the commission of a robbery, making three of the defendants eligible for the death penalty.

"That's something that’s done with the District Attorney as well as other individuals that he has hand selected to be part of the committee to make that decision," said Deputy District Attorney Amir Alem. "So I'm certainly not going to guess as to what would happen."

In the meantime Thursday, more details surfaced about Kumra's background.

He owned The Mountain Winery in Saratoga and a cell phone company. But in a massive divorce filing, he was accused of shady business dealings.

One former business partner claimed Kumra's divorce was "on paper only" as a way for him and his wife to shield their assets.

According to reports, Kumra was heavily into drugs and alcohol and spent quite a bit of time with prostitutes.

All three defendants facing murder charges in this case -- will come back to court tomorrow to appear together for a plea hearing.

All of them are being held without bail.

A Monte Sereno-Los Gatos police sergeant told KTVU it was likely more people could be arrested in the case.
