A relaxing morning at a South Bay beauty salon was loudly interrupted Thursday when a car drove through the shop’s front window.
Authorities said a 92-year-old female driver told them she hit the accelerator instead of the brake and went careening into the Top Cuts Plus salon located in the Campbell Plaza Shopping Center at Winchester Blvd. around 9:30 a.m.
“I was in the back and it was a real loud crash,” Melanie Gunnar said. “We came out and the car was inside the building.”
There were five people inside the salon at the time, but fortunately they were in the rear of the building.
Still Gunnar said it was a narrow escape.
“Had it been a couple minutes earlier, a couple people could have been hurt,” she said.
But Gunnar admitted she was still a bit shaken.
“We’re all still a bit shaken up,” she said with a chuckle. “It’s not a drive-thru beauty salon.”
While the front window was heavily damaged, Gunnar said, the salon remained open for business with clients entering through the rear of the shop.
There was no immediate word if the driver – who was uninjured -- would be facing any charges in the crash.
