A Salinas man was sentenced Tuesday to six years in state prison for sexually molesting a minor for three years.
Daniel Lujan, 66, a former coach at the Salinas Boxing Club, abused a girl he was coaching who was under 14 years old, said Monterey County Deputy District Attorney Todd Hornik.
The abuse began in 2009 and lasted until 2011, Hornik said.
The last incident was during a trip in Ohio, where Lujan attempted to have intercourse with the child in a hotel room but the girl refused his advances and reported the abuse, said Hornik.
Lujan entered a plea in July, Hornik said. Following two sentencing hearings, Monterey County Superior Court Judge Julie Culver ruled against placing Lujan in a rehabilitation facility on a probation grant.
Watchdogs are questioning an exclusive agreement between the City of Oakland and a non-profit group, tapped to lead a multi-million dollar project to redevelop the area around the Coliseum BART station.
