A Northern California man is facing charges after members of a sheriff's task force, along with state and federal agents, raided his Sacramento-area home and found a collection of illegal guns, authorities said.

Jack Holsey, 47, was arrested when law enforcement officials served a warrant at his Gold River home late Friday and found 12 weapons, described by Sacramento County sheriff's Sgt. Jason Ramos as machine guns.

During the search, officials also found child pornography and methamphetamine, Ramos said.

Investigators have not determined what Holsey had planned to do with the guns, Ramos said.

"We don't know for sure if he was just a gun nut and liked to collect these, or if he intended to sell them, that's still unclear to us," Ramos told The Associated Press.

"When you factor in the meth use who knows what kind of frame of mind this guy had," Ramos said.

Holsey was booked on unlawful possession of an assault weapon, possession of a controlled substance while possessing a loaded firearm and possessing child pornography.

Officials have not released details of the make and the caliber of the guns found, and Ramos could not say if all of the guns were operational. Weapons experts were going to examine the guns more closely Monday.

Ramos would not say what led authorities to the home, except to say investigators had "developed information" that Holsey had numerous illegal weapons in the home.

The methamphetamine allegedly found in the home was described by Ramos as a "nominal amount." The meth and the child pornography allegedly uncovered in the home were found during the search for the weapons, Ramos said.

Holsey was being held on $75,000 bail. He was due in court on Tuesday. It was not known if he had retained an attorney.

The Sacramento Bee reports that Holsey has had previous brushes with the law, including an arrest last October for allegedly making criminal threats. He was due to enter a plea on March 6.

Criminal records also show that Holsey had pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge involving a 2004 case alleging that he had received stolen property, The Bee said.

In 2003, he was arrested on suspicion of illegally possessing a silencer. In that case the charge was reduced to a misdemeanor, and Holsey was sentenced to 90-days and three years of probation.
