SAN LEANDRO, Calif. —
In an incident that police said might have been gang-related, a man was shot in his leg Thursday night in the same San Leandro Walmart parking lot where a man was shot and wounded on Black Friday last month.
The 22-year-old victim was shopping with his family around 10:20 p.m. Thursday at the Walmart at 15555 Hesperian Blvd. and then went outside to smoke a cigarette and noticed a suspect standing by a vehicle in the parking lot, according to San Leandro police spokesman Lt. Jeff Tudor.
When the victim began to open his passenger door, he also noticed a second suspect who was standing with the first suspect at the rear of his vehicle, Tudor said.
He said the suspects made a few comments to the victim and then the first suspect shot the victim in the leg.
The victim, a San Leandro resident, sustained a through-and-through gunshot wound that broke his femur, according to Tudor.
After the victim was shot, he got back into his vehicle, which was driven by his brother, and fled the area, Tudor said.
The two suspects chased the victim and his brother out of the lot in a gold-colored sedan, but there was no evidence to indicate that the suspects shot at the victim's vehicle, Tudor said.
No arrests had been made as of this morning in connection with the shooting, which investigators believe is possibly gang-related, Tudor said.
He described the first suspect as a Hispanic man in his 20s who is 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighs 170 pounds and was wearing a dark T-shirt, black jeans and dark shoes and was armed with a semi-automatic handgun.
Tudor described the second suspect as a Hispanic man in his 20s who is 5-foot-6 and 160 pounds and was wearing a dark hoodie, dark pants, dark shoes and an Oakland A's baseball hat.
Shortly before 2 a.m. on Nov. 25, the day after Thanksgiving, 21-year-old Christopher Murillo of San Lorenzo was shot in the same Walmart parking lot.
Murillo and his two cousins had been shopping for a video game.
Murillo was released from the hospital four days after he was shot and is recovering at home.
Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the shooting and face charges of attempted murder, robbery and attempted robbery.
