An Antioch man was arrested on Sunday afternoon after being treated for burns he suffered from an accident while making pipe bombs in his home, police said.

Antioch police and Contra Costa County firefighters responded to a report of smoke coming from a home in the 1400 block of G Street at 1:56 p.m.

Witnesses reported seeing a male resident walk out of the home with burns to his hands and leave in a car, police said.

Frank Trout, 53, of Antioch went to Sutter Delta Medical Center a short time later with burns to his hands and face and admitted to medical personnel the injuries were a results of an accident he caused while making pipe bombs, police said.

Antioch Police closed the street and cleared all residents in danger. The Walnut Creek police bomb squad was called in for assistance.

Bomb technicians located and disposed of an undisclosed number of explosive devices and explosive making materials, police said.

Trout was released from the hospital and transported to the Contra Costa County Sheriff's main detention facility in Martinez.
