A man had boiling cooking oil thrown at him by his roommate in San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood early Tuesday, a police spokesman said.

Officers were flagged down in front of the Tenderloin Police Station around 2:40 a.m. by a 47-year-old man who said his roommate had thrown the oil at him during a dispute at their apartment in the 300 block of Jones Street, police spokesman Sgt. Daryl Fong said.

The victim told police he was in the kitchen reading when the suspect came in and started heating the cooking oil in a pan to make some food, Fong said.

The roommate then left the kitchen and turned off the light, but the victim turned it back on, apparently angering the roommate, who allegedly grabbed the pan and flung the boiling oil at the victim, scalding his face and his arms, Fong said.

The victim directed officers to his apartment, where they arrested the roommate, 48-year-old Felipe Manrique, according to Fong. Manrique was booked into county jail on suspicion of aggravated assault and battery causing serious injury, he said.

The victim was taken to St. Francis Memorial Hospital to be treated for his injuries, and has since been released, Fong said.
