EAST PALO ALTO, Calif. —
One person was killed and another injured in a shooting in East Palo Alto Monday afternoon.
The incident happened near the intersection of Purdue Avenue and Illinois Street.
Investigators said the East Palo Alto police department got hits on its Shot Spot Activation just before 2 p.m., the shot spotter that alerts them to gun fire.
Police detected anywhere from eight to 17 possible gunshots, and when officers arrived they found a Latino male adult dead in a backyard area of a home on Illinois Street.
A second person turned up at Stanford Medical Center with gunshot wounds. That person remained in critical condition Monday night.
Police said they don't believe anyone at the home was involved.
No arrests have been made and police said they don't know yet if the shootings were gang-related.
Police said they have not issued any warning to the neighborhood about anyone at large.
No suspects have been identified in the shooting and police have not determined the motive. Anyone with information about the shooting has been asked to call East Palo Alto police at (650) 321-1112.
