A man was shot and killed outside of a bar in Santa Cruz early Saturday morning and three potential suspects have been arrested, police said.
Officers responded to reports of a shooting around 12:30 a.m. outside the back entrance of the Red Restaurant and Bar in the 200 block of Locust Street where they found a man who had died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to police.
Police have identified the victim as 32-year-old Santa Cruz resident Pauly Silva.
Officers spoke to several witnesses in the area at the time of the shooting, who described the suspect vehicle as a green or gray 1990s-model Mercedes, according to police.
Police in Watsonville later stopped a car matching that description near Green Valley Road and detained two occupants.
The two suspects, identified as Norteno gang members, were brought back to the Santa Cruz Police Department for questioning in connection with Silva's murder.
Police said the suspects were arrested on suspicion of probation violation and being a felon in possession of ammunition - charges that are unconnected to the homicide. Detectives are working to determine their location at the time of the killing and whether they were involved.
Later this morning, detectives detained another person of interest in connection with the murder after following leads they developed throughout the night.
That suspect was arrested on outstanding warrants and his involvement in the homicide is also undetermined, police said.
Police believe there are additional witnesses to the shooting who have not come forward.
