SAN JOSE, Calif. —

A man was found shot to death Monday morning in an underground parking garage in south San Jose and by that afternoon, police had detained two men as people of interest.

Officers were dispatched at 9:26 a.m. after receiving reports of an armed individual at the Summer Breeze apartment complex on the 200 block of Lewis Rd, near the Monterey Highway.

The victim, whose name was not immediately being released, was found laying down next to a car in the complex's underground garage, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Emergency crews arrived and attempted to revive the man but he died at the scene, police said.

Officers secured the area and did not let anyone leave the garage, which was when they came across the two people of interest.

After talking to a couple of witnesses, officers determined that some sort of confrontation occurred with the victim and the two men who had been detained.

"What happened? We don't know -- we're in the early stages of investigation," said Lt. Tim Kuchac, San Jose Police. "We do have a couple people detained and a couple people in custody."

Investigators told KTVU that there were surveillance cameras inside the garage and police were working to obtain that video.

Officers said that not too many people heard the gunshots so they were also looking for additional witnesses.

By that afternoon, investigators declared there were no outstanding suspects because they were of the belief that they had the responsible parties in custody.

The man's death was the 46th homicide in San Jose during 2012, police said.
