A 13-year-old boy riding his bicycle was struck by a car in a school crosswalk early Friday after a driver failed to yield to a crossing guard, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP said the incident occurred at 7:52 a.m. at the intersection of Shoreline Highway and Pine Hill Road in unincorporated Marin County.
At the time of the collision, the CHP said, the boy was riding in a marked cross walk with a school crossing guard who was standing in the middle of the intersection with a hand held stop sign.
A 2002 BMW 325 driven by 30 year old Anne Rothmann of San Francisco failed to yield to the crossing guard -- who was standing in the middle of the intersection with a hand held stop sign – and struck the boy.
The boy was treated at the scene by paramedics for minor injuries and released to the custody of the CHP who remained with him until a legal guardian could pick him up.
Authorities said Rothmann refused to provide a statement to the investigating officer.
Watchdogs are questioning an exclusive agreement between the City of Oakland and a non-profit group, tapped to lead a multi-million dollar project to redevelop the area around the Coliseum BART station.
