Mechanics Bank in Berkeley robbed at gunpoint

BERKELEY, Calif. —

A man robbed a Mechanics Bank in Berkeley at gunpoint Wednesday morning, a police spokeswoman said.

Officers were called around 9:25 a.m. to the Mechanics Bank at 1801 Solano Ave. Police spokeswoman Jennifer Coats said a suspect armed with a gun stole an undisclosed amount of cash.

No one was injured.

Police were attempting to locate the suspect, described as a black man in his late 30s who is about 6 feet 6 inches tall with a stocky build and dark complexion.

He was wearing a black beanie and black hooded sweatshirt and carrying a black backpack at the time of the robbery, Coats said.

Detectives remained at the bank investigating that afternoon.
