Monterey authorities search for teen's killer

MONTEREY, Calif. —

 Monterey County sheriff's officials have identified a girl who was
found murdered in Chualar  as 14-year-old Maria
Ambriz-Reyes.

   Ambriz-Reyes, of Salinas, was fatally shot and her body was found
by a farm worker when he was driving through a field near Old Stage and
Esperanza roads at around 9:30 a.m., sheriff's homicide Detective Matt Davis
said.

   She had been dead for about 15 to 24 hours before she was
discovered, he said.
