MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. —

Mountain View police arrested a student at a high school Thursday morning after he caused a disturbance by showing up wearing full camouflage and a gas mask.

The police department received several phone calls shortly after 8 a.m. reported a male subject wearing a gas mask and camouflage walking into Mountain View High School. All MVPD patrol units, school resource officers, traffic units, and detectives responded immediately to the school.  Los Altos police responded to assist as well.

Authorities set up a perimeter around the school and units combed the neighborhood looking for the subject.  Patrol officers recalled contacting a similarly dressed subject months ago and -- based on that information -- were able to identify and determine that the likely subject was a student at Mountain View High School.

School resource officers contacted the student in class, 18-year-old Christopher Egerton of Mountain View, and he admitted to the prank. Egerton was admonished for his actions and arrested for causing a disturbance on school grounds.

The incident took place while class was in session, so no students were affected and class was not disrupted.
