NAPA, Calif. —

Police fatally shot a man following a vehicle pursuit in American Canyon Friday night, according to the Napa County Sheriff's Office.

At about 10 p.m., American Canyon police attempted to stop the male driver of a white pickup truck.

Following a short vehicle pursuit, police fired shots at the suspect on Newell Drive, deputies said.

The lone occupant of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said.

According to sheriff's deputies, no officers were injured during the incident. 

The Napa County Major Crimes Task Force, comprised of representatives from the Napa Police Department, Napa County Sheriff's Office, Calistoga Police Department and the District Attorney's Office, was activated, and would continue to investigate the incident, deputies said.

The identity of the deceased man was not released Saturday morning.
