Oakland rapper 'Too Short' arrested for DUI, possession in Hollywood

OAKLAND, Calif. —

East Oakland-based rapper "Too $hort" was arrested in Hollywood early Wednesday morning, a Los Angeles police officer said.

The rapper, whose real name is Todd Anthony Shaw, 46, was arrested at 3:05 a.m. at North Las Palmas Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard on suspicion of driving under the influence and possession of narcotics, Los Angeles police Officer Bruce Borihanh said.

According to TMZ, Too Short fled when officers attempted to administer a breathalyzer test but caught him soon afterward, as he had tripped not long after he started running.

The celebrity news site also reported that the the rapper attempted to rid himself of some narcotics while in the back of a patrol car.

He was booked into the Los Angeles Police Department's Metropolitan Detention Center just before 6 a.m. on $10,000 bail, according to jail records.

The rapper is known for his West Coast hip-hop, including the 2006 hit "Blow the Whistle" and his 1990 single "The Ghetto."
