OAKLAND, Calif. —
A toddler was recovering from gunshot wounds Saturday after he was caught in the middle of a gun battle in Oakland the day before, according to his relatives.
The family of 2 year old Dionte Jackson said the boy was recovering after being shot around 1 p.m. Friday near the 9200 block of Sunnyside Streetd.
“He’s blessed. He’s doing better than he was yesterday. He’s still in critical condition right now, it’s hard to breath, but he’s ok,” said his grandmother Brenda Venson.
Jackson was shot in an apparent accident when a gun battle broke out 2 blocks away from his home while he was playing outside.
Venson told KTVU Saturday that the active toddler frequently plays in the front yard of his home.
“Whoever did this to my grandbaby please come forward and give yourself up, because you’re going to be caught,” said Venson.
The family was also calling on witnesses to come forward if they have any information about the shooting or the shooters.
“If they know anything, if you all saw anything, come forward and let someone know. If you don’t want to come to the police, come tell the family; we’ll do it. I’m not afraid,” said Venson.
