Oakland police gathered outside a liquor store Friday afternoon after reports of a suspect barricaded inside the building have taken the suspect into custody.
Police issued an advisory at about 3:15 p.m. about the incident in the 1600 block of MacArthur Boulevard.
Police said several streets are closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic, including 17th and Ardley avenues, and MacArthur Boulevard between Ardley and Woodruff avenues.
Officers on the scene said the incident began with the theft of a car and electronics elsewhere in Oakland. Police pinged cell phones to track the stolen items to a liquor store at MacArthur Boulevard and Randolph Avenue.
They arrested three men and two women, but a fourth man stayed inside.
Video shot by NewsChopper 2 showed SWAT teams bringing in a heavily armored vehicle that drove up to the door of the store before the suspect finally emerged and was taken into custody around 4:15 p.m.
Police then checked the store to make sure no one else was still inside and that a weapon wasn't left hidden there.
Watchdogs are questioning an exclusive agreement between the City of Oakland and a non-profit group, tapped to lead a multi-million dollar project to redevelop the area around the Coliseum BART station.
