SAN LEANDRO, Calif. —
A CHP officer had to be taken to a hospital and was later recovering Sunday night after a speeding driver slammed into his patrol cruiser during a rain storm.
The officer was responding to slide-off on westbound I-580 in San Leandro, arriving to find three vehicles stuck in the mud.
As the officer waited for tow trucks another driver rear-ended his parked cruiser.
The CHP sergeant on scene at the crash said rainy conditions were not an excuse.
"No, actually I don't think this was weather related. I think it was speed related. I think it's folks needing to pay attention,” said Sgt. Stephen Perea.
The injured officer was reportedly taken to the hospital to be checked-out.
No other injuries were reported.
