MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. —
Law enforcement agencies conducted a child sexual predator sweep in Monterey County on Wednesday, arresting six people, according to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office.
Ten different agencies conducted about 70 parole and probation searches on registered sex offenders in Salinas, the Monterey Peninsula and the northern part of Monterey County.
The sweep included agents from the Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Marshals Service and the Santa Clara, San Benito, Contra Costa and Solano county sheriff's offices.
Three people were arrested for parole violations. They were identified by the Monterey County Sheriff's Office as Salinas residents David Ramsey, 28, and Rudy De La Garza, 53; and 38-year-old transient Ysidro Neria.
Jesus Gonzalez, 36, of Monterey, was arrested for probation violations, and 43-year-old transient Jon Nicholls was arrested for outstanding traffic warrants.
The sixth man, Gary Silva, 50, of Prunedale, was arrested for a parole violation as well as possession of methamphetamine, Monterey County sheriff's officials said.
Watchdogs are questioning an exclusive agreement between the City of Oakland and a non-profit group, tapped to lead a multi-million dollar project to redevelop the area around the Coliseum BART station.
