SAN JOSE, Calif. —

The driver of a vehicle fatally struck a pedestrian in a hit-and-run collision in San Jose Wednesday, according to police.

Officers responded to the area of S. White and Quimby roads on a report of a traffic collision at about 5:45 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers determined that a vehicle had struck a man and the driver of the vehicle had fled the scene.

The victim was transported to a local hospital and treated for life threatening injuries.

The victim was pronounced deceased at 11:02 p.m., police said.

The preliminary police investigation revealed that the victim was crossing the street when he was struck by a dark colored SUV or van.

Police said the vehicle did not stop and continued southbound on S. White Road.

Neither the vehicle nor its driver has been located, police said.

The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of the victim's family.
