Oakland police said one person was injured and one person was detained after a downtown shooting Friday afternoon, according to authorities.
OPD dispatch received several calls reporting gunfire heard in the area of 11th and Broadway in front of the Marriot Hotel shortly after 3 p.m. Officers responded to the intersection and discovered a male adult suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim, a cab driver, was struck in the leg and treated for a non-life-threatening wound.
Fire and medical personnel have been dispatched to the scene. There was no word on the seriousness of the man's injuries.
The incident was causing major delays on BART transit through Oakland due to the proximity to the 12th Street/City Center BART station, but BART reports that trains are recovering from the delay.
There was no information on the suspect who was detained by police.
Watchdogs are questioning an exclusive agreement between the City of Oakland and a non-profit group, tapped to lead a multi-million dollar project to redevelop the area around the Coliseum BART station.
