Oakland police were asking for the public's help in locating a 9-year-old boy who went missing Tuesday morning.
Nathaniel Binder was last seen at his family's North Oakland home in the area near the MacArthur BART station at about 11:30 a.m., police said.
His father told police that he and his son had argued earlier in the day because he would not let Nathaniel wear a new pair of sneakers, but Nathaniel has no history of running away, police said.
He was described as white, 4 feet 6 inches tall and 110 pounds, with blond hair and blue eyes.
Nathaniel was last seen wearing a black T-shirt, yellow and blue shorts and blue and green Converse shoes. He was also wearing a red jacket with white and blue trim and a black backpack with neon green trim when he disappeared, police said.
Anyone with information on Binder's whereabouts was asked to call the Police Department's missing persons section at (510) 238-3641. Callers could also contact Crime Stoppers of Oakland at (510) 777-8672 or the tip line at (510) 777-2805.
Watchdogs are questioning an exclusive agreement between the City of Oakland and a non-profit group, tapped to lead a multi-million dollar project to redevelop the area around the Coliseum BART station.
