NOVATO, Calif. —

As Dr. Robert Bliss sat in the living room of his Novato home Thursday morning, he struggled to find a reason why someone would riddle the front of his family’s residence with a salvo of bullets.

Nearby bullet holes were clearly visible in the front room window.

“I was at my office and got a call from my wife saying the house had been shot up,” Bliss told KTVU Thursday morning. “The police think it was random, but I don’t know – 12-13 shots into the side of the house seems a little more than random to me.”

But Bliss said he had no idea why someone would shoot up his house. The house sits on a hilltop on Robin Hood Drive off Olive Ave. with open space nearby

“We get along with all of our neighbors well,” he told KTVU. “We have good relationships with everybody. It’s a quiet neighborhood. A dead-end street – we have very little traffic so I have no idea.”

Fortunately, no one was injured as the bullets slammed into the home.

“There was a young lady who lives with us sitting the couch, but 20 minutes before it happened, she went downstairs and that’s when the shots were fired,“ he said.

Novato police quickly responded to the scene of the shooting Wednesday afternoon and launched an intense search of the neighborhood. However, the search came up empty.

Novato police Lt. John McCarthy told KTVU that investigators believe the shots came from a heavily wooded hilltop near the home and that officers would be searching that area for evidence on Thursday.

There was no immediate word on a description of the shooter. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Novato police at 415-897-4361.
