Salinas Police say two brothers who own a popular downtown restaurant have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in the beating of a homeless man who fell into a coma.

Sgt. Christopher Lane says that 43-year-old Robert DeLeon and his brother, 32-year-old James DeLeon, were taken into custody on Wednesday in connection with the beating outside their restaurant, the XL Grindhouse, on Oct. 13.

Lane says the 55-year-old transient was able to tell police that he was attacked outside the restaurant and later identify his attackers.

Lane said that the brothers were apparently frustrated that the man continued to loiter in front of their establishment.

Police say the man is recovering from serious head injuries at a San Francisco Bay area hospital. His name has not been released.
