SAN JOSE, Calif. —

Homicide detectives were busy in a San Jose neighborhood Sunday after a man was found mortally wounded from a gun shot in the driveway of his house that morning.

A 911 call minutes before 8 a.m. reported the discovery of a body, possibly dead, in front of a house on the 1900 block of Tripoli Ave.

San Jose Police officers arrived on scene and discovered a Hispanic man in his 30s lying in the driveway, unconscious and not breathing. He was also suffering from at least one gun shot wound, according to Ofc. Albert Morales, SJPD public information officer.

Emergency Medical responders were unable to recusitate him and pronounced him dead at 8:05 a.m.

Officers soon discovered that the man lived in the house nearby where he was shot.

Later that morning, detectives were interviewing his family, who were inside the residence during the incident.

The victim's identity was not revealed Sunday, pending notifcation of his family.

No one has been arrested in connection with the crime, which was under investigation later Sunday.

The victim's family has lived in the neighborhood a long time and there was never any trouble, according to neighbors.

Neighbors said they heard arguing late Saturday night outside this home, followed by gunfire.

“We heard two shots last night,” said Micahel Santana. “We woke up to a bunch of officers over here.”

Another neighbor said she called police, but when officers came out last night during the rain they didn't find anything.

“Makes me think about security,” said the woman. “(Police) were out here and they couldn't find anything where does that leave us.

Police confirmed the body was discovered by a relative in front of the home Sunday morning.

“He was suffering one gun shot wound,” said San Jose police officer Albert Morales. “This marks the city's first homicide for 2013.”

Investigators documented evidence and canvassed the area for clues as neighbors looked on with concern.

This was San Jose's first homicide of 2013, Morales said.
