SAN LEANDRO, Calif. —

Police were searching Saturday for Henry Leon, a 19-year-old Oakland man they have named as a suspect in a fatal stabbing of a 15-year-old girl in San Leandro the night before.

Leon was believed to be a suspect in the stabbing that was reported around 6:20 p.m. Friday in the 1900 block of Pacific Avenue, police said.

Officers found a girl suffering from multiple stab wounds to her torso, police said.

A responding officer and paramedics performed life-saving measures but they were unsuccessful and the teen succumbed to her injuries, police said.

Leon was believed to be driving a dark blue 2004 Cadillac Escalade with black rims and California license plate No. 5SBE608, according to police.

Police said Leon was in a relationship with the victim and was the father of their 9-month-old baby.

Police were asking the public to notify authorities with any information about the suspect.

This was the city's first homicide of the year.
