A registered sex offender shot multiple times Monday in Salinas died Tuesday in a San Jose hospital where he had been transported for treatment, according to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office.
Medical staff at the hospital notified the sheriff's office at about 2 p.m. Tuesday that Donald Wayne Crisp, 58, had died of injuries following surgery, deputies said.
The sheriff's office and Salinas Police Department responded to call about a shooting at 10:35 a.m. Monday on Higuera Lane near Hyland Drive, deputies said.
They found Crisp lying mortally wounded from multiple gunshots in a driveway at 10 Higuera Lane, deputies said.
Crisp was transported to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas and then airlifted by helicopter to San Jose where authorities rushed him into surgery, deputies said.
Crisp was a registered sex offender, according to a sheriff's deputy. According to the state's sex offender registry, he had prior convictions for rape and sex with a child under 14 years old and he resided nearby on Hyland Drive.
