SF Sheriff’s deputy arrested on bank robbery charges

SAN FRANCISCO —

A San Francisco Sheriff’s deputy was arrested Friday after he was identified on a surveillance camera photo as the suspect who robbed a local Bank of America branch, KTVU has learned.

The deputy has been identified as Phil Tong.  He was seen in a photo holding a stack of dollar bills during the robbery of the Bank Of America branch on Balboa Street in San Francisco on Nov. 7 at 4:50 p.m.

Investigators said Tong gave the teller and handwritten note and was given the money before he fled the bank.

 Police arrested Tong Friday morning in the 400 block of Seventh Street on suspicion of felony robbery and burglary charges, according
to Officer Albie Esparza. His bail was $150,000.
