SAN FRANCISCO —

San Francisco Police released surveillance footage Wednesday of a robbery suspect who reportedly mugged a woman and killed her dog in the city’s Tenderloin District the week before.

On Dec. 28, the 30-year-old victim pulled over in the first block of Leavenworth Street around 5 p.m. to use her cellphone, according to San Francisco Police.

"I knew it wasn't the best area, but I felt safe because it was daylight still,” said the victim, who spoke to KTVU but wished to remain anonymous.

The victim had exited her car and walked over to her passenger side door when, police say, the suspect leaned over her, grabbed her shirt and started digging through her pockets.

"He then grabbed me by my jacket, pushed me towards the car and said ‘I'm going to take your F-ing money,’” she said.

He stole $5 from her jacket and another $120 in Christmas money she had inside the car

After finding a small amount of money, the suspect demanded more from her, at which point Roxy, the victim's 12-year-old Pekinese dog started barking in the back seat.

“He said, ‘I'm going to kill your F-ing dog,’” she said.

The suspect then reached into the car, grabbed the dog and threw it onto the street in front of a car before running away.

A witness who was driving into the city for an early dinner with his partner they saw the woman and a man struggling at the side of the road and stopped to help.

"First thing we heard is, ‘I'm going to kill your dog,’ and then he just slammed it under this moving car!" said the witness. “I heard the impact of her little body hit and [the victim] screamed."

Roxy was rushed to a veterinarian, but her injuries were so severe she had to be put down.

The victim later told KTVU that she rescued Roxy from a shelter two years before and became extremely close with her, saying that Roxy slept at the bottom of her bed each night and that she loved the little dog more than anything.

Surveillance footage captured the suspect, described as a black man in his 30’s, running away, and police posted the video and still photos from the footage on the department's website.

Anyone with information about the case was asked to call Inspector Economus from the department's Tenderloin Station at (415) 345-7348. People wishing to remain anonymous can call a tip line at (415) 575-4444 or send a tip by text message to TIP411 with "SFPD" in the message.

A reward for information on the suspect, started by Colbruno and his partner, had grown to a total of $3,000 by Wednesday. Others can donate to the "Roxy the dog Reward" at the Gateway Bank in San Francisco.

For more information on the reward, the victim's supporters have set up a Facebook page called "In Memory of Roxy -- Justice Must Be Served"
