San Francisco Police were searching for a man Sunday who allegedly poured gasoline on his girlfriend and set her on fire in the Bayview District that afternoon.

Around 12:17 p.m., police received reports of a woman screaming on Hollister Ave, between Jennings and Ingalls streets, according to Ofc. Carlos Manfredi of the San Francisco Police Department.

Officers arrived on scene to find the woman with her clothes on fire, which she was able to remove on her own, Manfredi said.

She was then rushed to the Bothin Burn Center at Saint Francis Memorial Hospital, where she was treated for her injuries.

Police have identified the man as 22-year-old Dexter Oliver.

The 25-year old -victim, a mother of three, suffered burns to her chest, neck and face, according to her sister Precious Craig.

Crime scene technicians carried gas canisters out of the victim's home on Hollister and Jennings streets, the home that she shares with her mother and sister Precious Craig.

The people who live in the house said the extra gas is for the cars in the driveway, but the victim's boyfriend decided to use the contents of the bottles to burn and seriously injure his girlfriend Sunday afternoon.

“They argue and stuff all the time, but I didn't think it was going to go this far,” Craig said. “My sister wanted to leave her clothes at the laundromat, but he didn't want to leave them there,” Craig said. “He got mad and threw the clothes down."

Craig said the argument escalated and she saw her sister's boyfriend pour gasoline into an empty Pediasure can.

The boyfriend then walked to the laundromat to find her sister, Craig said.

“Ten minutes later, she was burned,” Craig added.

Customers at the laundromat said they saw the boyfriend throw gasoline on his girlfriend and light her on fire.

“She smelled like gas,” said a neighbor, who declined to give their name. “She was on fire, totally on fire. Terrible. Terrible.”

 The woman was able to rip off her burning jacket and run back home for help.

“I just want to know why he did that to my sister,” Craig said. “She did not deserve it. He needs to turn himself in. My sister’s going to make a full recovery because she's strong. I know she's strong, she's been through so much.”

Oliver is described as being approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 155 pounds. He was last seen wearing a red and white hoodie jacket, dark pajama pants with a multi-colored shamrock print, with gray and red Nike tennis shoes. He has a haircut that includes a fish shaved on one side of his head and a lightning bolt on the other, Manfredi said.

Oliver faces attempted murder and arson charges. Anyone who comes into contact with him is asked to contact San Francisco police immediately.
