SAN JOSE, Calif. —

San Jose police are investigating whether a shooting that wounded a 17-year-old boy near a middle school campus on Tuesday night was gang-related, authorities said Wednesday.

Police said the victim was standing on the sidewalk near Fisher Middle School at 1720 Hopkins Drive in East San Jose a few minutes before 8 p.m. when a light-colored SUV drove by and someone inside opened fire.

The SUV drove off after the shooting and police arrived to find the victim on the street suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

He was taken to a hospital, where he was treated for injuries not considered life-threatening, police said.

Police initially said the victim was 18 to 20 years old, but today confirmed he is actually 17.

No one has been arrested in connection with the shooting, and detectives are looking into whether it was related to a street gang, police said.
