SAN JOSE, Calif. —

A San Jose man allegedly kidnapped his ex-girlfriend Saturday and then attacked her and a male friend with a knife after she escaped, according to police.

Vincent Esparza Padilla, 38, allegedly kidnapped his ex-girlfriend, a 34-year-old San Jose woman, around 7 a.m. Saturday from the 5800 block of McGilvra Court, said Officer Jose Garcia of the San Jose Police.

Padilla allegedly pulled the woman into her car, a 1991 Toyota Corolla, and drove with her through San Jose and Milpitas.

The victim was able to jump out of the moving car around Yosemite Drive and Dempsey Road and call a male friend for help. The friend, a 46-year-old man, drove to pick her up, but Padilla located them on the 3100 block of Sierra Road and attacked the male friend with a knife.

The victim and her friend were able to get into a car, but Padilla then allegedly used the victim's car to ram their vehicle.

Police were called to the scene, but Padilla fled before they arrived.

Police located the victim's car at Cardoza Park in Milpitas around 1:10 p.m., and located Padilla in the park a short time later. He was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, carjacking, assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence battery.

The woman sustained minor injuries that did not require medical treatment, and her friend was not injured.
