SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. —
South San Francisco police are seeking a man who allegedly held his family hostage at gunpoint following a dispute, and shot his sister in the hand while she was trying to escape, police said.
Police were called to 521 Spruce Ave. at 7:48 p.m. Sunday, after receiving a report that Luis Alvin Baja, 56, of San Francisco was holding family members hostage.
Police suspect that following a disagreement with his family, Baja produced two handguns and ordered all his family into an area of the home.
While one family member attempted to negotiate with Baja, police said, other family members attempted to escape out of a window.
Police said when Baja discovered this, he fired one of the guns toward his sister, shooting her in the hand. The rest of the family was able to escape unharmed.
PoliceĀ Baja then fled the area in a white 1993 Mercedes with license number 4AQJ097. He was arrested a short time later.
Police said that Baja is a known narcotics user and suspect he may have been under the influence of methamphetamine during the conflict
